Champions Referral Programme

Terms and Conditions governing participation as a Step-Up Champion, including eligibility, rewards, valid referrals and marketing obligations.

Draft under review. These terms are being finalised with Step-Up's legal and NLC compliance advisor and apply once confirmed. Version 2026-07-30.3.

1. Who runs this programme

This programme is offered by Step Up Competitions (Pty) Ltd (Reg. 2025/929384/07), promoter of NLC-registered society lottery Scheme 00268, promoted on behalf of Hout Bay United Football Community (NPO 165406) ("Step-Up", "we", "us").

2. What this programme is

The Step-Up Champions Programme ("the Programme") lets approved individuals ("Champions") share their personal referral code or link with friends, family, and followers. When someone enters a Step-Up competition using a Champion's code or link, the Champion earns a reward as set out in Section 4.

This is a marketing referral arrangement, not employment, agency, or a partnership. Champions are not authorised to sell tickets on Step-Up's behalf, collect payment on Step-Up's behalf, or represent themselves as Step-Up staff.

3. Eligibility

To join the Programme, an applicant must:

  • Be at least 18 years old and a South African resident;
  • Hold a valid SA ID and pass the same age and ID verification Step-Up applies to competition entrants;
  • Apply through the official sign-up form and be approved by Step-Up. Approval is at Step-Up's discretion, and Step-Up may cap the number of active Champions at any time;
  • Agree to these terms and to Step-Up's standard Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

Step-Up may suspend or remove a Champion at any time for breach of these terms, suspected fraud, or reputational risk to Step-Up or its charity partners.

4. Reward structure

20%of ticket price
R100payout threshold
1stmonthly payout date

For every valid referral you receive a cash commission of 20% of the referred ticket's purchase price, paid monthly on or around the 1st by OTT voucher to your WhatsApp, or by EFT or bank transfer where Step-Up has approved that for you. A R100 minimum payout applies; if your balance has not reached R100 it carries over to the following month until it does. Tax and reporting on what you earn rest with you.

  • This is a management and marketing fee paid by Step-Up; it never reduces the charity share of any competition and never discounts a ticket.
  • No payment is due on refunded, cancelled, fraudulent, or ineligible referrals. If you are overpaid (for example a later refund), we may recover it from future commission or on request.

Step-Up may change the reward structure, rate, or cap at any time for future referrals, with reasonable notice to active Champions. Changes do not apply retroactively to already-completed valid referrals.

5. What counts as a valid referral

Your unique link or code tags a purchase to you for a 6-hour window; if a buyer opens more than one Champion's link, the most recent one counts. A referral is valid only where all of the following apply:

  • The buyer completes a ticket purchase with your unique code or link applied at checkout;
  • The purchase is not later refunded, reversed, or found to be fraudulent;
  • The buyer and the Champion are not the same person, household, or shared device, IP address, or payment method;
  • The purchase does not result from misleading, false, or non-compliant marketing by the Champion (see Section 7).

Step-Up may withhold or reverse a reward pending review of any referral it reasonably suspects is invalid.

6. Referral limits and anti-fraud

  • One referral code per Champion. Codes are non-transferable and may not be shared publicly as a "coupon code" outside your own channels without prior approval;
  • Step-Up monitors for self-referral, bulk or bot sign-ups, and payment-method reuse, and may deny rewards or remove Champions found doing these;
  • Step-Up may request supporting information (for example screenshots of posts) before paying a reward.

7. Your marketing obligations

When promoting Step-Up, Champions must:

  • Include the required disclaimer below on every public post;
  • Never state or imply guaranteed winnings, guaranteed odds, or that buying more tickets guarantees a win;
  • Never target minors or imply the competition is open to under-18s;
  • Never misrepresent yourself as Step-Up staff, or claim authority you do not have (for example to change draw dates, confirm winners, or process refunds);
  • Comply with the advertising standards that apply to Step-Up's own marketing (Consumer Protection Act, ASA Code, and NLC advertising rules for society lotteries);
  • Not use paid advertising (for example boosted posts or Google Ads) to promote your referral code without Step-Up's prior written approval.
Required disclaimer · every public post
"18+ only. Play responsibly. NLC Scheme 00268. Odds and terms apply."

Breach of this section may result in forfeiture of unpaid rewards and removal from the Programme.

8. Your tax

You take part as an independent promoter, not an employee of Step-Up. You are responsible for declaring and paying your own tax on what you earn. Step-Up does not issue a tax certificate (such as an IRP5) for your commission; treat it as income you declare yourself.

9. Your information and communications

We store your name, email, phone, chosen handle, and optional photo to run the Programme. Your payout details are arranged with the Step-Up team directly. We never share customers' personal details with you. See the Privacy Notice.

By giving us your number you agree that Step-Up may send your one-time sign-in codes and links and programme updates by email and on WhatsApp. You can opt out of WhatsApp at any time by replying STOP, and you can still sign in by email.

10. Programme changes and termination

Step-Up may modify, suspend, or end the Programme at any time, with reasonable notice where practical. Rewards for valid referrals completed before the change or termination date will still be honoured, subject to the review process in Section 5.

11. Liability

Participation is voluntary. Step-Up is not liable for any loss a Champion claims to have suffered through participation, other than the reward properly due under these terms. Nothing in this Programme varies the terms and conditions applicable to competition entrants themselves.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any dispute will be resolved in accordance with Step-Up's standard dispute resolution process as set out in its Terms of Service.
